Need ideas for things to do during reading week? We’ve got you covered!

1. February Fitness Challenge

James: “Rack up those pedometer steps for your chance to win a Fitness Prize Pack! Yeah, you bet I’m plugging a Wellness Wednesday initiative here! This is your chance to get ahead of the game. Do something active every day of reading week; this is your best opportunity to get the most steps! For example, on Monday you can go running around the block. Then, on Tuesday, you can take a class at Hart House. Then, on Wednesday, you can go dancing. You get the point; do anything that’ll get you moving if you want to win. You can do it! I believe in you! Get fit this February!

You can sign up here and send your pedometer steps to commutersgetfit@gmail.com.”

2. Check out the new Bentway Skate Trail

Liam: “This just officially opened in Toronto last month! You can head down to the Lakeshore just west of Bathurst to find this trail under the Gardiner Expressway.”

3. Watch the new Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Arc (or re-watch the original)

Karen: “That’s right, the popular 90s anime is back with a new season — but with the same writers and voice actors as the original! You can watch the new season here in between study sessions for a fun 20-minute break. There are only five episodes so far, but that’s still plenty for us to talk about. Shoutout to Saambavi for reminding me of the series and sharing in the nostalgia. Come talk to us about it during office hours if you love CCS as much as we do!”

4. Drop by a dance or fitness class at one of our three gym facilities!

Samantha: “What a perfect opportunity to get started on a new habit — reading week gives you that extra time you thought you didn’t have before. Hit up a class and get your sweat on!”

5. Reconnect with Friends

Victoria: “Take this opportunity to check in with friends you haven’t seen in awhile and reply to the texts that you’ve been ignoring while studying for midterms! Reading week is the perfect time to grab that coffee you promised to that high school friend you ran into on the TTC — take advantage of that!”

6. Sleep challenge

Saambavi: “See how long you can sleep without getting up! It’s good for you AND takes next to no effort. Don’t forget to take snack breaks!”

7. Take a day off to practice self-care

Jane: “It’s time to take it slow and relax before your upcoming exams! Remember to recuperate from the past couple of weeks by taking some time off from studying and working. Whether that means having a lie-in, treating yourself to a DIY spa day, or just kicking back and relaxing with friends, reading week is the perfect time to get re-calibrated! Personally, I’ve already planned a day for myself to laze around in bed with a couple of YouTube videos, a refreshing sheet mask, and a warm cuppa tea.”

8. Explore Toronto

Sam: “Catch up with your friends by checking out different events that are happening in Toronto! Some cool highlights include the Toronto Light Fest happening in the Distillery District, the Ice Breakers art exhibit by the Toronto Waterfront, or instead of going for that typical escape room, try out one of the new VR gaming centres in Toronto — there’s one near campus called VRPlayin!”
