“I’m sorry I was uncreative, tbh my fave activity to do during winter season is curl up into a ball while waiting for the flowers to bloom.”
Liam W. Falkenheim

1. Drop-In Skating

Victoria: “Did you know that there is drop-in skating on campus? Use of the Varsity Centre is FREE for students, and you can affordably rent skates if you don’t have your own! Check out this website for the schedule and details. If you’re also interested in themed skate nights, make sure to stay up-to-date on MoveUofT’s events!

2. YouTube Workout Videos

Karen: “YouTube workout videos from channels like Fitness Blender or XHIT Daily for quick 5–10 minutes of at-home workouts. You can take these workouts pretty much anywhere you have adequate floor space around! Most don’t require any additional equipment beyond your body weight.”

3. Walk to Class

Sam: “Walk to all your classes! If you’re a Vic student, crossing Queen’s Park should be a familiar daily feat. Walking to all your classes instead of taking the subway can actually end up saving you time (TTC delays are quite unpredictable), so not only will you be staying active, but you’ll be saving time!”

4. Dance Breaks

James: “Dance it out in between study sessions, when you wake up in the morning, or even as you go to sleep at night. It’s fun and full of fitness!”

5. Drop-In Classes

Jane: “Check out the plethora of free drop-in classes that UofT has to offer! My favourite drop-in classes are Zumba and Core Balance workouts, but there are also sessions for Yoga, Pilates, and more! Classes are typically an hour each and are a great way to sweat out that stress while meeting some cool people! Go to the Kinesiology website for a full drop-in class schedule. Did I mention that these classes are all FREE?”

6. Drop-In Stretch & Relax at the Athletic Centre

Samantha: “Drop-In Stretch and Relax at the Athletic Centre are a great way to take some time to destress and take care of your body and mind!”

7. Hiking

Saambavi: Toronto’s about to get a break from those freezing temperatures, and there’s no better time to check out some of the city’s scenic hiking routes and parks. Try the Evergreen Brickworks trail or take a walk through High Park!

8. More Walking

Liam: “Walking everywhere is the key. If you can plan ahead for the time, walking is an excellent way to stay active, whether its between your classes, or even deciding to get off one stop early and walk the rest of the way.”
